Search engine optimization or SEO is the practice of taking the search terms visitor’s type into the search engines to help make your website more Google friendly.  It’s all about how to optimize long tail keywords by using them in such a way that both the search engine and the human viewer are satisfied.

A long tail keyword is a phrase that is typically what the searcher enters when looking at a subject with a more particular target in mind.  Say you want to find a particular dog collar.  Your search would be better served if you type in “Brand X electronic dog training collar” rather than “dog training collar.”

It follows that the person who is typing in a more specific search phrase is looking for answers and/or shopping, not just surfing the ‘net.  It’s in the web designer’s best interest to learn how to optimize long tail keywords into article titles, throughout the article content and even do some text linking to other sites that have the same search term.

Generally speaking, when you incorporate the long tail search term into your content, you should include it in the title, the first paragraph and last paragraph and 2 -3 more times throughout the body of the article depending on the article’s length.

It is still an underutilized “trick of the trade” and even those who have been in the business a long time don’t understand SEO and how to use it to their best advantage.  Stay ahead in your “game” - learn how to optimize long tail keywords in your website’s content.
